Chapter 9

Sacha and Tholore made their way outside to create the shield to protect the prison, and a group of witches volunteered to journey back to the Vampire Realm. Althea gave them some of the last of the invisibility potion for the trip, and they planned to bring as many supplies as possible back with them.

The dragons spoke among themselves to catch up on years of news, and it was insanely cool to hear so many thunderous voices echo around us.

We found a crevice in the wall next to Zutha where we could sit like it was a bench, and I couldn’t stop smiling at our huge ally. Nuri sat with us, but I had become so used to her being around that I kept forgetting she wasn’t a regular part of our group.

“How are you feeling?” Kali asked. “Are you in any pain?”

“No,” Zutha said gently as she laid down to face us. “But I can still feel the evil hold those shackles had on me. It’s as if the black rock is still lingering on my scales, but I already feel ten times stronger than when I was chained.”

The gold and purple of her scales shone brightly against the light orbs that had been placed all around to drown out the glow of the black rock. Some witches were coming around with food provisions to keep us going through the night, and contained fires were being lit with magic to warm the huge cavern.

My eyes darted along each one of the dragons as they made themselves comfortable. There was centuries of knowledge and experience waiting to be learned, and I couldn’t wait until the huge creatures were strong enough to speak with me for hours. I knew I could spend a whole week listening to their stories and hearing about far-off realms of Hollowfell.

“I asked the witches to bring plenty of supplies here,” Althea said as she stretched her arms. “We’ll have blankets and food by tomorrow. It’s going to take a few days for the potion to be brewed, but we’ll be more comfortable.”

“I was thinking of heading back to Earth,” I said quietly as I glanced around, and Nuri tilted her head curiously.

The fireling had become such a constant part of our group that I had actually forgotten she didn’t know my whole story. Myra grinned at me, and I realized it was probably time for her to learn the truth. I knew everything about her backstory, and it was clear that she was getting closer and closer to us.

“Is that the realm you come from?” Nuri asked, and she glanced at the other women.

“This is going to be a long story,” Myra chuckled before she leaned over and kissed my cheek.

“Earth isn’t a realm,” I said as I looked into Nuri’s huge eyes. “It’s a world. I’m not from Hollowfell.”

The fireling raised an eyebrow and folded her arms as she shuffled around to face me.

“I don’t understand,” she said. “Is this a joke?”

“Nope,” I said. “I found a portal that connects our worlds, and I have a whole other life on Earth.
